Does it matter if you visualize a successful online business. You may be surprised to learn that it does. But this is one of the most difficult concepts for people to grasp. So, how can you do it?
If you've read any of the books written by the gurus, you'll have seen at least once the idea that if you're able to create a mental picture of what you're trying to accomplish then you're far more likely to actually achieve it.
The typical example that is then used is that of an athlete, who thinks through each stroke, step, or throw before executing the move. But personally, I find that such examples are of no use to those who want to have a successful business.
Then there's another group that says you should focus on the outcomes that you'll get from succeeding at your business. They say that you should meditate on the things you'll be able to buy: yachts, cars, expensive vacations, etc.
Personally, I've found that neither approach is helpful. For one thing, it's well-nigh impossible to imagine something if you've never seen it, or at least part of it, before.
I frequently hear online business people say how important it is to decide what you'd like your business to look like in five years? How can you be expected to do that when you have no idea what it will look like next week? The idea is ludicrous!
So, here are three other ways to think about your business. I think that these will give you a more wholesome answer to the question, and enable you to see a way forward.
1. Aspire to a target that is just beyond what you think you can achieve in the next 12 months. If you think that you can probably get 25 new customers, then aim for 32. If you think that you can write five articles per day, then aim for seven. Make your target just beyond your reach.
2. Take your mind off of the things that you will be able to buy as a result. Your goal is to generate enormous value and make it available to your prospects and customers. Put your energy and mental effort into imagining all that your products will be able to do for your customers.
3. Set smaller goals that you know you can achieve. There's nothing like success to make you more successful. If you try to accomplish too much, then you'll continually beat yourself down for failing to reach them. But, if you set and achieve smaller goals, it will give you the confidence you need to tackle the larger problems.
